Bill Krispin

Bill Krispin has been involved in Philadelphia urban ministry for the past 55 years. Born and raised on the north side of Chicago, Bill came to Westminster Seminary in 1965 following graduation from North Park University (BA in History and Philosophy) with the intent of returning to Chicago. In 1967, Jack Miller challenged Bill and the Orthodox Presbyterian Church to take up urban ministry in Philadelphia. Following an internship at Tenth Presbyterian Church Bill and his wife Mary moved to South Philadelphia in 1968 to plant Emmanuel Chapel. Bill graduated from Westminster Seminary in 1969 with the Bachelor of Divinity degree. Bill and Mary have 5 adult children and 16 grandchildren. Their greatest joy is that all of them are walking with the Lord. Early on Bill got involved in a prayer group of Philadelphia pastors who started a Christian elementary school in 1969. That same group initiated the Westminster Saturday Seminar in 1971 that became the Center for Urban Theological Studies in 1978. Bill served as the Executive Director of that ministry from 1975-1994. During 1997-2001 Bill served as the pastor of Pilgrim Church located in the Roxborough/Manayunk section of the city. During 2001-2007, Bill was the Executive Director of CityNet Ministries for planting churches in the city and the region. Currently, Bill is retired and serves as Senior Research Fellow for Common Grace Philadelphia, a ministry working to understand and nurture the vitality of Christianity in Philadelphia by building ministry partnerships between churches and ministries in the city. Over the past 10 years Bill and Mary have served in China with David Chen. They have been privileged to see that ministry grow into a vibrant training center serving the church throughout China. In 1991 Bill was awarded the honorary Doctor of Divinity degree by the Eastern Baptist Seminary, now Palmer Theological Seminary. He is an ordained teaching elder in the Presbyterian Church in America. Bill has co-authored Place Matters with Coz Crosscombe.
